Each season brings its share of celebrations and joyful gatherings. In spring, Easter brings you chocolate whereas summer is time for the Saint-Jean-Baptiste Day and the Confederation, which are respectively Quebec’s and Canada’s national holidays. We can think of Thanksgiving, which is celebrated in fall, but not on the same date as the American holiday. So what about winter? It is the season for Christmas, New Year’s Day and Valentines’ Day. For some people, these celebrations are only commercial ones, but for others, it is a time for sharing. Whatever your reason for celebrating, the Laurentides region proposes many extraordinary activities to celebrate or to give you the chance to relax in the woods and mountains.
In December and January
During the holidays, many families leave their apartments and houses to visit family and friends. Some leave for a simple change of scenery in far away and exotic countries, while others want to enjoy nature and rent a cottage or a condo and be closer to a ski resort. Between Christmas and New Year’s Day, numerous accommodation establishments offer packages that include special menus for Christmas or for New Year’s Eve. For example, Hôtel du Lac Carling offers you a 5-course gastronomic dinner on December 25, and on January 1st, sparkling wine and a DJ await you. Hôtel La Sapinière in Val-David offers the same type of package, but celebrates a mass at the hotel on December 24.
Now that you reserved your dinners, you need to add activities to your stay! For a unique experience, we invite you to visit Aventures Plein-Air St-Hippolyte. There, you can go on guided snowmobiling excursions. You only need warm clothes since the snowmobile rental is included in the package. What are you waiting for? Live the adventure and discover the Laurentian forest. For a special activity, you can try a helicopter tour with the pilots of Héli-Tremblant. During the holidays, with all the decorated lands and houses, an evening tour will put stars in your eyes! Otherwise, during the day, you will see the beautiful trees shining under the snow as well as lakes and streams starting to freeze. Not a bad view!
Mid-February
Another celebration we like is Valentine’s Day, the lover’s day. If you really want to surprise your loved one who likes nature and hiking in the woods, you can rent a campground site at the parc national d’Oka. Yes, winter camping! Try the “Turnkey Camping”, under an already set-up tent by the campfire. Warmly wrapped up in your sleeping bag, with marshmallows on a stick, you will experience the true Quebec winters! If you prefer a more “classical” activity, you can always try one of the numerous spas of the Laurentides region. With your loved one, you can organize a full day of cares, like Scandinavian baths, massages, algae wrappings, Finnish saunas and Turkish steam baths. These are only a few of the services available here and there in the region. You can thus choose whatever combination you like. And do not forget that for a longer stay, many inns offer accommodation and cares in the same premises, like Wyndham Cap Tremblant. Have fun shopping, and remember that all these activities can be offered as a gift…
